From the very first phone call talking with Raquel, to the actual guided trip with Guy, my expereience was as good as it gets. It felt as if I was talking with old friends.

I flew out from Washington DC to fish with Guy and catch some native Kern River Rainbows in the Golden Trout Wilderness which I had read about in "Fly Fisherman Magazine".

What an amazing beautful river. I have fly fished all over the world and the pack trip into the Golden Trout Wilderness was as good as it gets.

I dont think I have ever seen such beautiful trout and country. Sight casting to 20+ inch fish was amazing

The first time I stepped foot into the Kern River Fly Shop, I knew I was getting the essentials I needed to improve my overall fly fishing. More important to me is the fact that I gained knowledge and insight into the value of being properly prepared for the many fly fishing situations I might encounter.

In working with Mr. Guy Jeans on casting, presentation, and landing techniques, I have experienced a deeper respect, understanding, and appreciation for the value that place and environment play in the overall fly fishing experience. I have also learned various fly fishing techniques and this change in perspective has increased my creativity in fly presentation. But most importantly, I have developed the confidence to challenge what and how I fly fish each and every time. I owe a tremendous thank you to the crew at Kern River Fly Shop and especially Mr. Guy Jeans. What an amazing fishery!!

Guy,

We would all like to thank you very much for all the wisdom you handed to us this past Monday. Please know that you have given us a renewed confidence in fishing the Kern.

I must admit we were all very frustrated with the river in the last few trips this year on our own, going out on a trip with you has shed a whole new light upon reading the water. Please know that we greatly appreciate all your insight and expertise.

We fished on Tuesday with great success and a good time was had by all. We fished the Guy Jean’s way and all caught some fatties!

Best regards,
Keith M. Los Angeles, Ca

The first time I ever fished the Kern River I used Guy Jean's Kern River Fly Fishing Guide Service. They put me on big fish our first time out. I've never seen Rainbow trout that fat! Thanks in no small measure to their expertise, I've fished the Kern a good numberof times since then.

I've used the guide service a number of times. On one occasion, a group from the Pasadena Casting Club went up for the weekend. The service for the group was excellent, and everyone, including some people fairly new to fly fishing, had a great time.

I always look forward to going fishing on the river around Kernville, and stopping in at the shop. There's always a warm greeting, and good suggestions about where and what to fish.

For those of you who enjoy fly fishing for trout as much as I do, I highly recommend "Kern River Fly Fishing Guide Service". Also, the shop (Kern River Fly Shop)always has everything you need at the last moment to have a great day on the Kern. What a beautiful river!!!

Regards,
Kentucky Jim, Pasadena, California

After returning to fly fishing after many years off, I picked it up again in 2004. I searched the Internet to find out about the places I wanted to go. I came across the Kern River Fly Fishing Forum created and maintained by Guy Jeans, owner of the Kern River Fly Shop in Kernville California. I became hooked on the forum and all the great folks that are willing to share their experiences as well as their knowledge. I feel I acquired 100 new friends almost overnight!

In the Kern River Fly Shop they have all the necessities for a beginner, families, and the more experienced fisherman lookingto fishin the great Southern Sierras with top of the line rods, reels, waders, or anything else you need.

I have been out with the Guides form Kern River Fly Fishing eight times in
the past three years. They have exceeded my expectations every time. They
understand that it's not just about the fishing; it's also about why we are
on the water in the first place. It's all in their attitude. Fishing with
the guides on the Kern is like fishing with old friends, as though
we'd been wetting a line together for years. They put you right at ease -- and
right on the fish. I am happy to recommend Kern River Fly Fishing Guide Service to anyone
looking for an unbelievable out door adventure with true professionals.

Every trip to the Kern River includes a mandatory stop at the Fly Shop, which is owned and operated by Guy and Raquel Jeans. Their shop is stocked with an incredibly wide range of fly fishing equipment and you are sure to be delighted with the superior service you will receive from the knowledgeable and friendly staff. You will find very affordable beginner fly fishing equipment packages as well as the top of the line in rods and reels. They also carries a wide assortment of flies, including his own highly effective creation the Kern Emerger and the Kern Candy. The staff knows and offers suggestions on the hottest flies for day and current conditions on the River.

I have enjoyed each of my outings with every guide from Kern River Fly Fishing Guide Service. These outstanding guides each possess the special qualities needed to excel in their field: mastery of the art of fly fishing, extensive knowledge of the river and the ability to transfer that knowledge to you. They will shorten the learning curve and will do their very best to get you into fish.

I recently hired Guy for a day of fly fishing for Golden Trout with my 81 year old mother. It was her very first time fly fishing and I'm betting it will not be her last. He took us to one of his special spots and taught my mother the proper technique in casting. Shortly she hooked, landed and released her very first California Golden Trout on her very first fly fishing outing! We were all very happy. Thank you Guy.

I have fished some of the great fisheries of the West, Henrys Fork, Green, Bighorn, Snake, Provo, San Juan and more. This was one of the best days ever. Guy is just the best. My son and grandsons now understand my passion for the sport - tks to Guy,

3 generations on the river was unforgettable. We have added a new multi-generational sport to surfing and playing golf together. Boy is it good to be Charlie Davison ! .

With best regards,

Just wanted to drop you a note to thank you once again for the great time Sunday morning and the beginner’s lesson for me, Brad, Matt and Kyle. It’s easy to see why you came so highly recommended.

We all had a great time, and as a Dad I appreciate your help in “making a memory” for me and my boys. They talked about their time on the river all the way down the canyon. Even Matt, was excited to come back and try again.

As a teacher myself, I know that really good teachers make teaching seem effortless. You do that so very well, like talking to a friend.

You were right Guy, holiday and birthday shopping will be very easy for years to come!

Hope to be back in the shop for some more advice and some Kern Emergers real soon. Thanks again for the fabulous time on the river and all the learnin’. See Ya soon,

I wouldn't even call myself a beginner fly fisherman when I walked through the door of Kern River Fly Shop since the only thing I knew about flyfishing was from watching that famous Robert Redford film (you know the one!) Guy Jeans and his staff showed me the way, from choosing the right gear, tying knots, and choosing fly's, then onto a quick lesson on casting. Guy then led me to the water, then to the fish. Wow-What an adventure!!! I felt like I was fishing with an old friend with how he put me at ease and the great time we had.

Now each time I visit the area, which is magnificent in itself, I drop into Kern River Fly Shop to further enhance my knowledge. I usually take a half or full day of instruction to learn more about the different strategies and techniques.

I am truly hooked, and thanks to Kern River Fly Fishing Guide Service,I have found a hobby to last me the rest of my life.

I have taken guided trips with Guy on at least seven occasions over the last three years: on the main stem of the Kern River, on the meadow streams for Goldens, on the Lower Kern for small mouth bass and in the Golden Trout Wilderness on a week long horseback trip for the Kern River Rainbows. He has a thorough knowledge of his huge watershed and shares its secrets with great enthusiasm. Guy has a reverence for the beautiful fish in his waters and seems to know mystically where they are hiding, even when there are no visible signs of activity. He has developed flies specific to his region and they simply work. I visit the fly shop several times on every trip to replenish my fly box, to swap stories and to learn from Guy and the rest of his friendly guide staff where to find the fish at the moment. Sometimes they suggest general places to explore and other times can put me on fish by just pointing at the map. Most of all, I just enjoy fishing with Guy. I have greatly improved my fishing skills through his expert tutelage and always look forward to spending a day on the water with him at my shoulder telling me with a smile how lame I was in failing to set the hook on that last strike!

Finding a fly shop in Kernville would be a perfect place for my hobby. Finding a full service fly shop in Kernville, owned by great people is priceless. Kern River Fly Shop is that kind of shop. Owned by Guy and his wife Raquel, it's the place to go to. You never want to miss a trip to their shop when you're up for a day of fishing. Especially when you need to find what the secret fly of the day is. They have an extremely knowledgeable staff that is friendly and always forthcoming on the conditions of the local fishing. Not to mention, their shop is stocked with all the right toys and flies.

In addition to the great shop, I was able to spend a morning floating the upper Kern with Guy as guide this summer and it was truly an awesome experience. With his knowledge of the water and his boatmanship, he had me on numerous fish. It's an experience I won't forget and someday hope to repeat. The best thing was that while he watched me fish and coached me on technique, I could pick his brain on different ways to fish the Kern. Also, I was able to see part of the Kern River that's extremely hard to fish without a boat or pontoon.
