my brother's rod
Aug 7th, 2012, 4:59pm

Just wanted to share what my brother wanted for his birthday. I didn't pick the color's or the arrangement. This is how he wanted it so I delivered. I still have the stripping guide and the finish left waiting on the handle to dry.

It isn't bad. I now know why you don't buy cheap guides. These were a pain in the ass. They wouldn't even line up right. next time I do a build I will spend the extra money and buy decent guides.

That looks like first quality work Gary. Quote:

I used to like the original Snake guides they required little or no prep, however the newer version is even better with the cupped feet which help to keep them lined up. The extra cost is so worth the reduction in frustration! The guys who build the rods with the flat sides probably would like the original Snake guides. I think the enjoyment your brother gets from fishing his family built, custom rod with his brother will make it all worth it. Enjoy!

Looking good, Gary.  I've sanded (or was it "grinded") too many feet.  I purchased guides for Denise and I for the rod swap that don't need any sanding.  Sure, paid a little extra, but well worth the extra in my book.

I am thinking of making a command decision and doing a 3 turn trip rap at the base of the guides on each side.
