Upper Kern River - Wilderness Area
Jul 11th, 2012, 2:55pm

I am new to the forum but have been visting the website for awhile. I finally decided to join the party to learn and share my experience.

This past weekend I took the Fiance on a over night hiking/fishing trip to the upper kern. What an amazing experienceit was. For those of u who have been there know what i'm talking about. I have fished Alaska's backcountry as well as my growing up home waters of Michigan and the upper kern is as good as it gets. I only ended up fishing 2 hours before dark and 2 hours in the morning and managed to land and release 6 healthy native bows. I cant wait to go back. Here are a few pics...Enjoy.

Cheers and keep tight lines!!!!

Yes, a pretty good introduction to the forum.  Nice looking fish, but where's the fiancee and her fish?  I mean, was she just along for taking pics? Grin

Nice fish & photos, thanks! I have to chime in, did your fiancee fish, too? The water looks too inviting to sit on the sidelines.  Wink

Yes the fiancé did fish however she is just learning the art of fly casting so we are working on it. Need a few more trips to a lake with wide open area to minimize the frustration. Pretty soon she will be out fishing me.

I must say I find myself day dreaming at work about getting back to the upper kern. I'm gonna try to get back there in the next 2 or 3 weeks. I'm itching to get back on the pools, pocket water and runs to try my luck at some hard fighting rainbows. I was very impressed with how hard those fish fight. My last fish I caught went about 15" and it was taking line much to my surprise. The fish activity definitely picked up the last hour before dark with some caddis and small stones coming off the water.

That's cool, I'm fortunate that my wife likes to fish with me. We just got back from Colorado and I'll post if I can figure out how to insert pictures.
