It is the one with the steel cable and knob system rather than conventional laces. I saw it in a store yesterday for the first time. I have read mixed reviews. What are your thoughts? Thanks, Lefty

I have had BOA system on my snowboard boots before and I liked them. The issue with BOA system is if it breaks, you tend to have to send it in to be repaired, where if you have laces you just get a new pair. I have found it convenient and quick way to get boots on and off. I looked at the Rivertek if they would have had my size in stock I might have purchased them. People either love or hate them, they do stay tighter over lace up boots. But that is a bigger snowboard boot issue over wading boots.

I don't have the Simms brand but purchased a pair of Korker's Redside that lace up. I have a couple friends that have the cable type system and they like them so far. I have not heard any complaints about the cable breaking, but would find out about the potential reapir issue brought up by Rasputinj.

The forum is a great place to get feedback before you purchase.

I figure it's like electric car door windows, there great when they work, when they don't...I ended up buying Patagonia Rock Grip boots. So far so good.

Nice boots. I bought the Korker's because of the interchangeable soles. So far, I have used the sticky rubber that came with the boot and recently purchased the studded soles. Have not used them yet, but was slipping around last time on the bigger rocks - so studded for me is a must. Next purchase is a wadding staff. Stumbled a couple of times and not fun trying to get your footing while the water and your body is moving.

Thanks for the input.

Like Rasputinj, I worry about these going out when I am out fishing. I would be without the boot unless I had the repair kit. And they aren't cheap. Think I will stick with a lace up boot.

I mean, it's not as if I am a MacGyve or someone like that. Cheesy

Before I purchased my Korker's I actually considered the cable model and contacted the manufacturer and asked a couple questions. They were quite helpful and actually suggested that I try to boots on and talk with the store to get an idea if there were any issues. I went to BassProShop and tried them on and selected a lace up model instead. They fit better then the cable type - was able to lace them up to fit.

I've been reading the same thing about the BOA system. They're convenient, but they do have their limitations. They don't fit as well as laces, since support of the system is limited as opposed to laces that cover the more of the boot (bottlenecks toward the top). I have heard speculation of the repair cost, but have yet to read first hand experience of the issue. I have been eyeing Korker's version, as I have already invested in their interchangeable soles. When I bought my boots, I ended up buying laces, only because it was one less mechanized system to break and laces are easier to replace. Who knows, these could be the best boots in the world, but I didn't have the $$$ to experiment with it.

I've been in the Korkers version for awhile. While I enjoy the convenience I can't ever seem to get them quite as tight as I'd like. Also, if the system gets a little out of whack - more line on one side than the other, it's a pain because they only tighten as tight as the short side allows. Unlike laces they don't seem to balance themselves out. Also, I notice that several times a day I'm re tightening them. Maybe it's because they're not quite tight enough or they're loosening.

If you are look for an alternate, check out the Simms Headwaters boot. I bought felt, I've hand mine on the water 5 or 6 days and I like them. My last Simms boots were the Rivershed, these are Headwaters boot is a bit lighter and I like that. They still feel plenty sturdy. I don't think you can go wrong here - and the boot is cheaper.
