The collective memories that were made last weekend will be carried in the hearts of the kids who attended...their parents who proudly watched and the men and women who took the time to share something important to them. It was a well rounded program and each of the segments taught important lessons from entomology to catching a fish. Carter, camped next to us, came over before dinner to tie some more flies that he had learned and again in the morning after breakfast. Seeing the smiles and the wonder of learning something special was well worth the drive and effort. Thanks to all who took time to make this happen...with a special thank you to Shane. There are a lot of moving pieces to these things to juggle and he kept all the balls in the air.

That was so nice of Tyler to give up a couple of big boogers so some of the new kids could catch some really big fish. To see the smiles on those kids faces when a toad of a trout would take off with the kids attached to the other end of the line was worth the trip for sure.
Mark had put a lot of thought into how to teach these kids casting from the beginning but one student stood out with his self acquired skills.
Colton was ready to advance at the ripe old age old 12, with curves, snake, parachute, plunge, mends and .......DOUBLE HAUL casts. Sunday I watched Guy teach the whole family at the park in Kernville.... Gary (dad) with Ethan, Colton, and Brady. The whole family has contacted the fly fishing disease but I think Colton has a severe case.

Special thanks to Shane! This man is a worker bee. His effort is what pulls this event together with all the details covered with a smile.
Next year we need to get each kid a pair of polaroid glasses not only so they can see the fish, but also as eye protection while fishing at the pond. A hook in the eye would spoil the fun for sure. When I loaned my glasses to the kids, it lit them up as they could see the reactions of the fish and could see the take. I will figure a way to get them for 2013.

I had a great time at the Kids Academy. Shane, a job well done. Everything ran smoothly, very well planned. The kids were super and eager to learn. This event is one of the most important for the SSFFC and I enjoyed participating. It was awesome to get together with old friends and meet new members. OK, here’s my pics from the day:
Thanks,
Chiaki

Nice matching shirts, Randy.
All the years I've fished the Kern and I have never caught a rainbow the size of the one in the net. Wow! You guys and gals taught them kids right.
BTW, is it time for a "Summer Poker Night"?

The July poker deals were fun! Too hot too fish but not for cold beer and poker.
I think too many board members are on vacation this July to hold the event.

I've been out of the country for almost a month and couldn't log onto the forum.
Reading this post brought big smile to my face
It's the SSFF club members eagerness to jump in and help with everything they have to teach the students that makes it special. All I have to do is a little organizing.
Then when you have kids who are so wiling to learn, everything comes together!!!
Have a great list of suggestions to make it better next year.
See you all at the KA Poker Night fundraiser in November!
Thanks again!
Shane
