I was having the house fumigated last weekend and it coincidentally fell on the same weekend that a few forum members were planning on fishing SD Bay. Ryan and I packed the toons in the car with a weekend full of supplies and headed down SD way. What a great surprise when more people than I expected came along for the fun and I was able to meet several new friends. After thoroughly enjoying Dave and Emily’s posts over the last couple of years that are filled with excitement, enthusiasm, and most of all appreciation of their surroundings, it was an absolute pleasure to finally meet them in person. Richard was accompanied by his friend from the east coast, Charlie, who was out for the week to fish the bay. I always enjoy talking with Richard about his latest adventures and Charlie was even more gracious and welcoming in person than he is on the forum.
Oh yeah, the fishing was pretty good, too. Saturday started off with everyone in the water and hooking up before I was even ready to launch. By the time I got into the water the bite had slowed, but not enough to keep me from regular hook-ups with plenty of Spotties, a few Fly Swatters, and even a Yellow Fin Croaker. On this day several colors caught fish, but chartreuse outshined all others with the overcast weather.
Sunday was rainy in the morning with a very slow bite for SD, but Charlie had already grabbed another bonefish by the time that Ryan and I got into the water. I had to congratulate him quickly to suppress my jealousy. About mid morning the sun started coming out and the bite picked up with more Spotties and Fly Swatters along a grassy/sandy transition drop off area that I found. Of course that is about the time when we had to pack up to get back for Ryan’s daughter Savannah’s softball games.
Overall it was just a super weekend meeting with old and new friends and looking forward to more gatherings in the future!! Thanks for letting me tag along!
