Utah Day 1
Mar 17
th

This first day I was giddy with excitement and fearful of the skunk. It sure is nice to get that first fish. I fished the Weber river just below a dam. This is skinny shallow water, but holds some very large fish. The numbers are not great, but the quality of fish mkes up for it. I was able to land 6 fish with a number of misses and 1 LDR from something I never even saw. The hot fly on this water was a skawala nymph fished deep. I fairly large stone fly tied with black and purple.
Utah is a beautiful state and I absolutely fell in love with Salt Lake City. Great friendly people, and tons of outdoor activity to keep you busy year round. I cant wait to go back. Here is a couple fish from day 1.... notice the Cut/bow hybrids....my first. Utah fishes much like the Eastern Sierra on steroids.
Also, swinging small soft hackles during a wind blown midge hatch is a great technique when "if it wasnt for this wind, the hatch would be epic" type of day. I have faced those days in the past...and the dry fly fishing just isnt on point, and the fish wont take the nymph's.....try swining a soft hackle.

Impressive fish considering how shallow that water is. Swinging soft hackles on windy days sounds like good advice.... I'm taking note of it.

Nice, Bill!!
I've definitely been giving more thought to the swing lately. This just encourages me to keep on going down that road.
All the Best, Dave
