kaweah? (Read 1199 times)

beaurummel New Member Posts: 26	kaweah? Mar 16^th, 2012, 10:34pm Anyone know anything about the Kaweah River outside of the park or maybe JUST inside? Not looking for any spots or anything just....does it hold fish or not.

Have passed it over many times on the way to other water, but for some reason have never stopped there. Aren't there smallies in that river?

There are some smallies there and up into three rivers. Generally speaking, the fishing in the Kaweah is not very good. If they have recently stocked the lake then you may take a few at slick rock right above the lake, but that pretty much it. I had a morning to kill a couple of mondays ago so I went to the middle fork inside of the park. These little creeks used to be jamed from bank to bank with fish, but there was not a single one there. It has mostly been over fished. closer to the camper months you may take some there though. have fun.

Success in debate is not getting your point across or persuading others. It is measured by ones ability to see others' points of veiw as well.

Reply #4 - Mar 19^th, 2012, 8:21pm in the middle fork in the 2 to 4 miles north of medicine rock there are some deep pools of water that hold large rainbows and some browns. in the sping months cadis and mayflies are out in the morning and late evening lots of fun on a dry.

Long time lurker around here. This is my first time posting. I grew up fishing the Kaweah inside, but mostly outside of the park. This was when I was 8-18. I'm 26 now and have moved away, and haven't fished the Kaweah in probably 6 years. There were definitely fish in it when I was learning how to fish with my old man. The biggest fish I've caught in California came out of one of the Kaweah forks. I'm not going to give away anything too "secret" but there are spots (that require walking) which can be worth the walk.

Reply #13 - Mar 22^nd, 2012, 6:24pm Thanks for all the input guys....fished it once upon a time while just trying to escape the in-laws absolutely nothing moved, bumped, flinched, swirled or anything else for that matter. I did learn a couple of things though so it was good for that. Again thanks for all the input maybe I'll continue to flog the water for a time.
