Here you go bud!
http://www.highsierrarods.com/classes.html
He's the closest I can think of. In the Bridgeport area. There is another guy I know in the Upper Sacramento area in Dunsmur I thing his name is Raine. But that's too far from you if you want to keep it local.
Check out High Sierra Rods. Looks good. And from what I know the guy is very good. Maybe Pete will chime in here and tell me I am wrong.
I know about the whole addiction thing. But getting into bamboo building can get a bit pricey. So make the decision wisely. I fly fished for many years and tied flies almost the same before I even got into thinking about building rods. I would highly recommend before you do, you go out and cast a few if you have the opportunity. If you can find someone to lend you a rod to fish even better. It may not be your cup of tea and you would have invested into something you may not be up for. So with that, I can honestly say that I have yet to meet someone who dosent like to fish bamboo once they've given it a go.
Good luck.

I hope you got an introduction to the casting characteristics of bamboo. Of course, it is easier if you have a few hours on the water to get a better idea. I don't know how often you get up to the Kern, but send me a pm (with some advance notice) and we can fish together and I will bring a bamboo rod or two.
Rod building is relatively easy when the blank is ready. However, crafting the bamboo rod can be compared to making wine. The options are nearly endless and the associated costs are related to your appreciation for the end product. Vintage bamboo rods vary in price like vintage wines.
Bamboo rod classes are expensive since many hours go into making a blank.
I hope this helps. Good luck in sorting out your thoughts on bamboo - patience helps!

If you're practicing catch and release, what difference does it make for the size of the fish you land.

Hi Grant,
Pete is the person you want to discuss Bamboo rod building.
Did you start your 2nd build?
Thanks,
Chiaki
