Redington Red Fly2 replacement

Hi everyone,
I hope someone here can help me.
I broke my Redington Red fly 2 rod (9' 5wt 2pieces) and Redington will replace that for me under warranty. But they say they will give me the pursuit which is cheaper than Red Fly2 and the rep told me over the phone even though it is a cheaper rod but we are passing the savings down to customers (I am not quite sure how they are doing this) but anyhow, my question is what would be a comparable rod given what Redington currently manufactures to replace my broken Red Fly 2?
Pursuit? Voyan? Classic Trout? CPX? Which one?
I might even pay a bit more to get something a bit better than Red Fly 2 if that is a possibility.
As far as action which Rod do you think would be closer in action to Red Fly2 which is a fast action rod?
Thanks.

The Pursuit is a very nice rod. It is fast and even though the retail price may be less that the RS2 when you purchased it, quality rods are less now and I can see what they mean by "passing the savings down to customers", they are charging less for the same quality. The Pursuit would be close to a RS2. Why not go to a Redington dealer and try one? Besides, you have a two piece rod; I think the CPX is the only other model you mentioned that comes in two piece but it's a higher end model. What about the RS4 which is 2 generations after the RS2? It comes in a two piece. If I were going to upgrade, I would get a 4 piece.

Mine is not the RS2, it is the Red Fly 2.
I just don't want to get something of less value than what I have (but seems like Pursuit which is an entry level rod is what they have in mind as a replacement for Red Fly 2).
I will definately get a 4 piece this time, I have had enough troubles fitting the 2 piece in the car, no more that.

You would think a well known company that has been around for a while would know what they are doing when they are going to replace something don't you? I would be happy with what they suggest.

My experience with rod company warranty work is if they don’t make the rod that is under warranty they give you the more expensive rod not the cheaper model in there line up. Or they allow you the option to pay the difference and get the more expensive rod.
As far as which rod to get, the CPX in my opinion has about as much feel as a broom stick. I think fast action rods are better in saltwater, or casting games. If I were to get a Redington for trout fishing it would be the Classic Trout. The best advice would be that you should go and try one before you make up your mind.

My redfly2 broke a few months ago & redinton replaced it with the pursuit. The lady told me that the pursuit was the most close to the redfly. Although I am pleased with the replacement, I would rather have the redfly2 back. The prusuit seems a little to stiff but it does cast even the small flies very well & at long distances. Just my oppinion

Sorry, I missed that. Well, the Red Fly 2 is newer but less expensive than the RS2. The Pursuit is not the low end rod in the Redington product line, the Crosswater is. It is good rod that even an experienced fly fisher can appreciate. The difference between the Pursuit and the Red Fly 2 in retail price is the Red Fly 2 was only about $10 more. I like the Pursuit, it's newer technology and I think your getting a good deal!

Thank you everyone for your advice, my broken rod is ready to ship tomorrow and I am just gonna order the pursuit as some of you have suggested and as Redington suggests as well.
As far as the CT rod, I have tried it before, and yes I do like the feel of it, but since I had used a heavier line to load fast action Red Fly 2 I think I have to go with a fast action rod since I don't intend to spent extra on the line, I have the line and I can use it.
I think my current line would be a bit on the heavier side for the medium action CT rod, so pursuit would be my choice.

My buddy borrowed (and broke) my RS2 about a year ago. Redington sent me the RS4 as the replacement so I was very happy.
I've since purchased a 3wt Classic Trout and absolutely love it. It feels softer, but for the tiny creeks I like to fish, who cares. Excellent workmanship and beautiful. The only feature I don't like is the integral rod sock, so I purchased an aftermarket one. I like to ditch the rod case and strap the socked rod to my Thermarest on the back of my pack.

Hey, I happen to
like
my Redington CPX 5 wt, and it does not feel like a broom stick! I accidentally bent a guard and returned the rod to Redington for repair. The sections puff up like a toad if I don't break it down immediately after use. Redington returned it within a week and sent an extra rod tip section, too! How nice is that? I now carry a piece of candle wax to rub on rod sections before assembly which took care of the problem.

I agree with Windtalker, The CPX is a very smooth casting rod and not really that fast. The CT is slower that the CPX and also a smooth casting rod. Both are good rods.
When it comes to rod action it's more a matter of preference than anything else. It's kind of like cars, sometimes a sports car with fast acceleration, stiff suspension, quick steering and feeling every pebble in the pavement is fun to drive; sometimes a luxury sedan with suspension and steering that makes you feel like your floating on a cloud is fun to drive. You make prefer one to the other or like both depending your mood. While faster, more powerful rods can be preferred when casting shooting heads, as is common in surf fishing, and slower are often preferred for more delicate presentations you will find as you become more proficient at casting you can adapt an action to suit the conditions and may end up with several rods of varying actions just because you like them all. And, of course, you need them!

I have a new CPX and I’m sticking to the broom stick analogy. In my opinion it has very little feedback unless you over line it by 2 line weights than what is rated on the rod. If anybody here is interested in a 9’ 7wt CPX that has been lawn cast only, it is for sale cheap! Compare it to a Winston B2X rod that I own in the same line weight and you will know what I’m talking about. It has nothing to do if I can cast it or not, that is a non-issue. I bought it to take my CI exam and just don’t like the way it feels.

The CPX Windtalker and I are talking about is a 5 wt. I'm not surprised your 7wt CPX feels stiff compared to the Winston BIIx in 7wt. They are quite different in feel and in price.
