Nice midges, Rob, but I'm even more impressed with your photos of the small guys. I have a hard time getting the lighting right and the focus right when trying to take photos of my smaller flies. My Pentax Optio WP has impressive macro capabilities but my lighting system is the weak link for my photos. I'd love to read about the details of your photo system. Care to give us a tutorial on photographing small flies?

Changed my tying lamps's bulb from an 23W energy bulb to a 60W natural lighting bulb and it made a big difference.

It looks like Craig helped you guys out. Here are some pics of my technical photo studio. Grin

I like to clear a small Wink space on my desk for a clear backdrop. Light blue or grey are good color choices. If your desk is dark, construction paper will work just fine. I will often take fly pics with the fly still in the vise, but the midges were too small to capture well this way. If this happens I will attach to an alligator clip and place the fly directly below my lamp. Place the camera next to the top of the lamp so that the lense is on the side of the lamp and close to illuminated subject. It may take a couple of attempts for quality focus, but that's it. Oh, by the way, I have a Ottlite(very nice) and they are now 50% off at Jo-ann Fabric through the end of the month.

These are the midge pics prior to cropping.

Hope this helps!
Peace, Rob

P.S. I don't think that it is my camera making the difference. I have a Canon A540.

Hey guys. Managed to inadvertantly delete Craig's PM with his address (learned this while pulling up at the post office today). Could someone send it to me. Will get bugs out first thing Monday.

Thanks/Sorry.

I guess I'm a little confused. I got a pm from you saying that you received my flies. I was the Dummy who forgot to send return postage and an envelope (sorry, again about that  undecided ). I tied the Pearl midge and the Red flashabou midge. I'm sure we'll get it figured out. Just let me know.

All the Best, Dave
