Got a package today from Clouserfreak and Ryan. Here's a pic of each:
Rob calls his a "Twisted Mayfly". I think this is the first one within the swap showing a twisted furl technique. What is the material used for the extension? It has a nice variegated look and furls really well.
Ryan is using an extended quill. I love the segmented look of the quill and how thin you were able to make it for a size 20 hook. Very Nice.
I believe I have three more to come: Dances with Bears, Crash Ash, and Flyn Ryan. I'll PM them to see how's it goin'. Really great swap. First Rate!

another great swap Steve, thanks for coming up with another style of tying I have not done yet.this one took some practice
recipe
hook 2488 size20
thread 8/0 olive
tail 3x mono with 3 micro fibbets
white quill dyed olive with kool aide
olive superfine
white poly yarn
dun hackle
I strung the mono between my vise and a wood dowel and tyed my tails then tyed that to my hook and finished the rest.
Thanks again
Ryan

Gentlemen, I must apollogize for not turning in my flies. I would like to make all kinds of reasons why but the only one that is fact is I just haven't been able to spend anytime on the vice to finish them. I have the tails tied but am just too busy to finish them. {work load } Again I am sorry for not completing the task but I think maybe I bit off more than I could chew with this tie.

I'm swamped. I have to bail. Tried a few different ties last friday night at Flyin Ryans, but never hit on a pattern that I liked... I hate bailing, but I'd rather shoot at the stars and miss than shoot at the ground and hit it.
You guys enjoy. I'm jealous!

As Ryan mentioned earlier, I got his flies today by Express Mail. I appreciate the expedition of the flies but it's really not that late by any means. Didn't we have a fly swap sometime back where it was like two years later before the flies were sent out....Now that's late!
Here's a pic of Flyn Ryan's pattern. I think he did an excellent job with proportions and a nicely tapered extended body.
Unfortunately, we had three that couldn't complete. I think the problem was that this was a challenging swap and some felt to be over their head. However, I believe the effort was there. Since we have enough flies, how do you feel about sending a package to the three that couldn't complete? I'd like to include these guys and give them some samples of extended bodies that they could examine and learn from.
I also want to honor Flyn Ryan's effort in getting the flies to me at a fairly high cost so I will be sending out packages tomorrow to the other 8 swappers. Just send me a PM with regard to a follow-up package to the other three.
Regards, Steve

Thats really nice how the abdomen and throax have such clean lines as they join together. Were they made as a single unit or in seperate stages?
