Woohoo for the Rendezvous

Was able to make it up to the Rendezvous yesterday, last minute. WHAT A KICK IN THE PANTS!!!!!! Every year it just gets better and better. Chiaki and crew did it up right again. It was great to jack the old jaw at old friends and meet new ones. Up front, I will say I'm sorry to all the new faces I met. I am horrible with names, so there is a good chance you have to remind me.
The auction was a blast to watch and brought in some good funds for the club. Liam (captain of the SSFFC team) smoked to competion and showed why he is a worthy captain. Grace,..... way to go. Repeat junior champion! Possible three-peat next year
? Outfished dad if I rember correctly
.
Thank you to President Bill and the rest of the board for making the SSFFC one of the best clubs anywhere.
Thank you to Guy & Raquel for everything you do for the club and river. You are definitely stewards of the Kern.
I am already counting the days to next year's Rendezvous. Now somebody post pictures!!!!!!

Ryan,
When we went by your campsite this morning about 8:00 AM to grab Mike (Rockstar) and fish. You guys were all sound asleep with the fire still roaring and the dude in the tux was passed out on the dirt. Must of been a fine party in your campsite last night.

So bummed I could not make it this year so I am living vicariously through all your posts and photos - I am very hopeful next year I will be able to make it (and am going to put the date on my calendar as soon as it is posted!).
Have been soliciting
items for next year's auction, too. Have several items already procured, mostly of a Scottish derivation, including some autographed bagpiping CDs, single malt whisky, and a performance by a solo bagpiper (kilt optional) at an event of the successful bidder's choosing (subject to scheduling conflicts and certain locational aspects).
Gotta learn how to fish better by then so I don't get skunked!

And yet another EPIC Rendezvous! I'm so glad my schedule allowed me to make it up, too bad I didn't get to fish though. So many great people and fisherman who are involved with this club.
I think the best part of it was Pete's presetation to Guy and Raquel. Kudos again to all who organize this every year.

Trying to remember everyone I met at the Rendezvous is definately going to be a chore. For Starters, I remember Gary, Lacey, Jay, Larry (Wiredog) and his son Jesse. Of course there was Bill, Bill Jr. and Ryan. I have to say that Larry showed what kind of class act he was when he gave the Fly Rod he won in the raffle to Ryan as a present. Go Wiredog. I would fish anywhere with you. Thanks to everyone who came for the festivities. We will see you next year.

I just hit a wrong button and nuc'ed a very long a heartfelt post I had written. Can't possibly recreate, so here's the heartless version.
I hope wives dont come to the annual party as the only event of the year and attempt to sum up what their husbands are getting out of this club. Rendzvous is a party, and is really not representative of the things we actually share as club members. I remember times with shane and coach scott on the river with their daughters where it is the handing down of mother nature that is at the center and NOT just some party where people are being a little loud a little too late. I saaw these daughters again (for example) and we talked like we hadn't skipped a beat since kids academy. It was neat, and I got to waatch them fish the next day which is the cat's pajamas. I stood on a rock for about 10 minutes just watching shane and 'the coach' fishing with their daughters. I accidently ended up fishing just upstream of Clark simply because the river brought us to the same place that day. I remember looking downstream thinking 'that's definately clark'... we have 20 miles of river and are traveling in a completely different vehicle, with completely separate objectives and YET... here we are, and there's that friend of mine, finding his solitude, not so far from where I'm finding mine. it's devine if you stop to appreciate it. How can one find solitude standing next to his friend? I even dare throw it out there that oneness experienced by more than one person IS solitude. however many are involved... if you can see what I'm saying...
I received an overwhelming amount of generosity this past weekend. Fully built rods were GIVEN to me. Rod balnks, flys and flyboxes (on account of loosing mine = stupid) were also givcen to me... The look in folks eyes as these things were changing hands were honest and hearfelt. So much that I couldn't reject the gift or the gesture despite the humble place it put me in, but make no mistake about it, I was humbled.
SPecial thanks to flyn ryan for his work on the video. He's a champ and a great person to hang with. Drew, Joe, Jeff, Sean, Mike, Ryan, xbilly and of course Clark: it was great to share a site with you guys.. Missed Chris C and KC though. but there's always next year
Guy and Rcquel and gang (ie chiaki, and other event coordinators) It waas once again a great success and I was honored to jam out alittle for everyone friday night.
xbilly: you never fail to remind me that you get it. Thanks for the gift and I'll not let you down.
Brandt: you're a special person. I'm thankfull for your questions and council. I promise to use these flies even though they're suitable for framing.
Dave:kenaitze, I missed the opportunity to introduce you properly to some of tho folks which is a folly I will yet remedie. It was good to see you dave and I got a kick out of your humor in the events of the night before. We will no doubt be spending some time together in the future.
Allen: for the very special package I thank you. I will not underestimate the intent in your gift and I hope to make you proud my good friend. We passed you coming down from fairview today. I suspected it was you fishing, and then we saw your car and I was reminded of our time at EW recently. what a magical time it was.
Antique guy, I'm staring at this 'fine rod' right now dreaming of the memories we will share. A true expample of loving something and letting it go... and it coming back to you and being (for the first time) forever yours. It was good to see you, as always.
Joe: I think Im going to get a German Shepard... I was dually mooved by your willingness to share the stories about your friend and will try my best to perhaps bring life to the memory and give it a way to stay (however temporary). Talking to you was one of my purest and greatest moments this weekend.
To all (either mentioned or not) I thank you. This weekend has brought tears to my eyes (maybe just the dust from Mojave) and I have to appreciate the life I've been given.
Humbly yours,
Cris

Shane,
You are wise beyond your years. Every once in a while somebody has to be thrown under the bus to protect your fishing. I would have done the same thing, "Gee, Honey I don't have a clue who those #&@%!* guys are
. It would probably be better if you talk to them. They might start a fight with a guy, but never with a pretty gal."
Cris,
There is no way you could ever do anything "heartless", even a post. I had completely forgotten you had misplaced tools of the trade. That is the thing about this club, they step up to help out other members. It has happened before and I am sure it will happen again.
Chiaki,
You got the date for next year yet? Huh,huh do ya, do ya??????
Don't forget Kentuckey Jim running the casting contest. Imagine how painful it must be for a certified casting instructor to oversee the casting contest. A dagger to the heart comes to mind
. He had over 60' of line out, on my Bamboo rod, with very little effort. Very humbling for me. I have work to do on my casting
.
I still say we need name tags with our name and forum name. HEY, give me a break!!!! Its an old dude thing. We have so many years of knowledge packed into such a tiny space, things tend to fall out. I would rather forget a name than a personal grooming skill. Then again some of you guys might not want your names known after the talking to
.

What can I say. A huge thanks and congrats to all that enabled us last weekend. It was, and not meaning to minimize th effort but, great as usual. I missed last year and it was looking like I was going to miss this year but things worked out good for me. It sure was good to see the old friends and make some new ones. I got to bring my Son along and he had a blast. Getting away from the city and spending some time in a beautiful and peaceful setting seriously refreshes the batteries. He is already plotting and planning for next year. About 20 minutes out of the campground,
"Ya know dad, if we stay another day......"

The "most interesting" thing about the first picture is that this old man, me, hung with the Bako Boys for as long as I could Saturday night and finally had to sneak off to bed. Before heading to my room for some Z's, I left a stand-in in their camp site. When they arrived with the keg, they never realized I was gone. The picture is of the Bako Boys still celebrating my win late into the morning.
Thanks everyone for another great 'Vous.

It's true Liam is a real trooper, loves competition, and loves fly fishing. My theory in his success is largely that he literally 'out works' everyone. Sure, he runs flies that work ... but regardless, you could give Liam inferior flies, and he's still likely to outfish the competition because of his work ethic and intensely competitive drive... moreover, it's hard to believe that he fished so hard all day, then had it in him to stay up to the wee hours.
Congratulations Liam!

Well Gentleman I had an outstanding time and am looking forward to next year. It was nice to see everyone again, and experience another Vous. I truly enjoy every moment on the Kern with you guys. I thought I was going to get to sleep early Saturday after a ROUGH Friday night drinking from the clear bottle from Hell. But NOOOOOO you guys just had to bring the liquid fun to the campsite and force me to have another, and another, and another. You get the picture. I really want to say thanks to all of you for a great and memorable time. I’m counting the days until next September. Thanks again to EVERYONE who made it happen. What’s that I see, yep it’s the most interesting man in the world waiting in the bush for his drinking buddies to come back next year. Peace,
Drew

If fly fishermen cannot have the best, we will take the least, and fish for minnows if nothing better is to be had.
