Meadows Outing July 9-12
Jun 28th, 2010, 7:56am

Smiley This is one outing that I've been waiting very patiently for  Roll Eyes:

July 9-12 to a Southern/Eastern Sierra Meadow.
Join anytime (ex: no problem if your only camping Saturday night.)
4 wheel drive is required.
Tent/car camping.
No backpacking necessary.  Wink
Potluck style dinners after dark.
Several species of Trout.  Cool
Fireside story telling.  Huh
Acoustic guitar for some fireside song.  Cheesy
In a nature newly entering its summer liveliness ...  Shocked

This one will be hard to beat, and I hope that some of you can make this outing... So far we've had 9 people who've made one outing or another... fished 6 different rivers... caught several different kinds of Rainbows, Browns, Shad ... the rest of the year will add Goldens, Some of the beautiful Golden Rainbow Hybrids, Brookies, and (hold on to your handle) Strippers, and Salmon!  Plenty of room for an Ocean outing and or a Bass outing (hit me up if you have ideas).

Come on out... everyone is welcome.  Don't be shy or feel as though you must be a fly fishing guru to participate.  New fishermen are especially welcome and will likely learn some useful tidbits.

The Outings Rules are simple and are a must:
Bring your outdoors P's and Q's and other than that, prepare to have a great time in nature.  Grin

Humbly hoping you'll come along,
Cris

Schawiiiing!  Thanks Bill.  I was wondering ... I have some hoppers that have been patiently waiting in my box for just such an occasion.

What size rod would you recommend?

The fish up there are generally smaller...  but the wind can pick up.  Plus you want the option to drag a streamer or nymphs in the deep holes..

I think you would be fine with a 0wt - 3wt.

I am glad I had a 3wt, I had to punch out some long casts, using a big bushy hopper into the wind.

Also, downriver, most of the big fish were pressed right up against the banks...  be super careful, I spooked a few fish that were very large.

but, again most of the fish up there are small...6-10 inches.

Also, down lower..where I was fishing... golden stones were good to go.  Afternoon nymphing with a size 12-14 (yea...big!) golden stone gave me lots of fish... but the big boys were keyed in on the hoppers.

I should have a full report up in a few days.

Anyone looking like they'll make this outing?  I'm hoping for a hero with a 4 wheel drive, or I'll have to cancel.

It's coming up quick, next weekend... I know this is a busy time of year, but I'm hoping there's someone out there who's schedule allows.

The fish are rising to dries ... I've heard that this meadow has an unmatched beauty.  Ahh the dream.

Thanks,
Cris

Awesome... it's on now!   Shocked

Glad you're going to be able to make it... I was getting nervous that I wouldn't have a partner for this one and I've been looking forward to this destination since March!

Now you gone and done it ... I'm officially stoked!  Cool

The only question remaining is:  who else is in?  Huh Roll Eyes

Didn't know there was a gentlemen's club in the meadows ... mmm .... of course with Salmon it must be at an ocean outing; there is a Spearmint Rhino in Santa Barbara but the Salmon fishing isn't always available. Let me know about that one!  Grin

Yeah....I think I'm gonna finally be able to put down my drumsticks and pick up the fly rod again. Let's get it on!

Also, I think a new friend of mine here will be down as well....should make for some good times - as always. May have to take your ride.....not sure the Mustang can roll in this environment.....lol.

Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll buy a funny hat. Talk to a hungry man about fish, and you're a consultant.

Cris, I'm trying to pull some strings and possibly do a Sat to Sun leaving after the morning fishing.  It's a quick turn around but will be worth it if I can manage.  I'll let you know.  Peace  Cool Drew

If fly fishermen cannot have the best, we will take the least, and fish for minnows if nothing better is to be had.

Gotcha Brian, I hit you back.  Glad you might be able to make it... Think of a potluck item you'd like to bring for saturday and sunday night and we can simplify what everyone is bringing food wise and EAT LIKE KINGS.

Really glad, cant wait... looks like a great turn out.

Yeah boy!  Stoked to get your text last night... we can take my truck to Bako then Jump in with flyin Ryan.  I'm going up to bako friday night and tying flies with Ryan then we are leaving early saturday morning ... if you can't go up to bako with me friday, you guys can meet us up there saturday morning and leave the Steed at Ryans pad next to ol' red.  If you can come friday evening with me to ryans, bring your fly tying digs.  I do need to clear it with Ryan if 3 of us will be crashing at his pad friday night.

Think of a potluck item for Saturday night.

I might stay till monday if Brian is coming along, but Ryan is coming out on sunday afternoon.  There fore if Saturday and Sunday is all you can do, getting a ride in and out will be no problem.

If you're ok to stay sunday night as well, bring a potluck item for sunday too.

Very glad my friend!

Cris
