There is a lot of great water in this state... The scenery (as Gary mentioned) is what made this general destination worth it.  I can't believe we went all the way and still fished a ton.  Once we got there we realized how close several of the rivers are and went into plan B mode over lunch saturday.  With some careful enhancements to our plan, it became a whole new ballgame.  I love it when people are willing to roll with the situation because it's impossible to perfectly forsee conditions thus a little inventive thinking can make a good trip into a great life experience.  Thanks Guys, You really made my birthday a special one!

The difficulty of one of the rivers was a great and welcome challenge.  Of course, no one told Ryan that it's difficult so he went ahead and caught a slab like it was nothing.  Had to be the highlight for me...

Naoki was the heart of this trip, and came very well informed about the when and where which took the pressure off me, and I really appreciated that the entire weekend.  I'm continually amazed at the people who have gone on these outings... Great people.  Ryan and Naoki are really fun to travel with and are extremely into fly fishing.  Genuinely stoked to soak it all in and execute.  We all fished hard and we're in a natural state of delirium given the surroundings.

Thanks a million for driving, Naoki!  Good job to everyone for catching fish!

More to come, Just uploaded my videos to my computer last night and will be editing for a couple of days (also am pretty much done with my narrative for last outing to the east side which I will post within 3 days.)

Get ready for some eye candy and another serious hatch!

You guys need to go fishin and get off me.

Theres another outing this weekend ... for example.

I'll be done when I'm done.  The actual outings are my emphasis #1.  The West Fork Conservancy is my Emphasis #2, Tying flies for Project Healing waters is my emphasis #3, Finishing my (what has become very lengthy) narrative about the epic EW trip is my emphasis #4 and then I'll edit and post my video for this trip #5.  Hold your breath if you want, but I don't recommend it.  I didn't get elected to this chair for prompt reports, as reports on my trips have always been delayed because of the time I put into them (for me, not you  Wink).  I got elected because I go on awesome trips and BY THE TIME i post the report, it's usually a cut above the usual...

Upcoming is Shad (this weekend)... M. Meadows July 10 weekend ... San Walkeen July 24 and 25th.  It's way better in person sportsfans.

We're trying to live thru your trips!  My wife and kids keep me from fishing with constant demands of my time and I wouldn't have it any other way Cool  Off to Magic Mountain tomorrow for my son's Bday.

And by the way Tightlines did post about a nice fishing trip on Fathers Day kiss   At least he gets to fish embarrassed

Looking forward to your post

If fly fishermen cannot have the best, we will take the least, and fish for minnows if nothing better is to be had.

This trip was amazing. The trip started for me Friday around 9pm when Cris and Naoki picked me up here in Bakersfield. We headed out Stockdale Hwy to interstate 5. I had planed on sleeping on the way up but was to excited. Cris took a nap so he could drive later on down the road. It was a long road that seemed to never end. Radar detector going off and looking out the back window...."is he still on the side of the road??"  Grin  When the sun started to come out from the east our destination was getting closer. When we arrived into town for breakfast we could she the beauty of northern California. I was in shock because I have only dreamed of going to places like this.  We had a good hot breakfast and some coffee. Keep in mind I am still awake from Fri 5:30am with a full hard days work behind me.  Shocked Shocked

We got to our first fishing spot at about 6am. The scenery and water look like it was out of a book or magazine. We spoke with a local for a few minutes and he gave us some pointer of the area. We said our thank you's and off to the trail we went. We walk for a while. Saw some breath taking views. Cris and Naoki got into the water and I decided to get some pictures and video of them before i fished. Once I got into the water my tiredness went away and I was in a new world. I did not get one rise, bite, or hit until late afternoon with my first Brown Trout. It was a little one but hey I got one! I was stoked. We stayed on the water till about noon. We decided that pizza and some beers sounded really good and went back to town.

During lunch we talked about how many waters there were to fish in this area and how close the were in proximity. We had a major plan change and boy were we glad. I sure as hell was.  After lunch we went to a new tail water for all of us. When we arrived I was greeted with lots of thorn's all along the thorny trail to the water that was not so easy to wade in. undecided I was thinking to myself this is going to be tough. I finally found a spot on top of a rock/plant to fish from with a nice deep run and some deep pocket water in front of me. First cast out I was hooked up. Woooohoooo!!! I pulled up a nice fat rainbow. I was thrilled at how this trip was turning out still with no sleep. The fish keeped the energy flowing. I took a quick pic and let em go. Second cast out..I was hooked up again!! HOLY CRAP!! This river is awesome. I was so excited that I didn't set the hook and just as fast as the fish was on it was off. I didn't care. I was having a blast.  Naoki and Cris had at it and I think I was the only one with a fish to net on this tail water.

We went back to the spring creek we started out at  for the evening hatch of caddis, mayfly, golden stones and a few others that all went off at the sametime. There were rises all over. It was really hard fishing and frustrated me. I said the heck with fishing and started chasing bugs with my net and camera. I got a few caddis and checked them out. I tried to catch a golden stone but they flew to fast and to high for being in the water. I saw this huge GS fly across the water falling to the water. It plopped on the water then took off. As it left the water I saw this huge fish jump for it. I tied on my big o'l dry stonefly and casted 3 feet in front of where I saw this fish. It drifted 2 feet and BAM! I was on. This fish pulled hard. It didn't get far but it pulled like a train. It went in circles around me. I took what seemed like 10 minutes to me to get it to net. I was amazed that I pulled out a 17"-18" rainbow out of this creek. It was fat and healthy. I took a few pic's and let it go to be caught another day. It was almost dark so I headed down river to find Cris an Naoki.  It was dinner time and went back to town for some well deserved burgers that were so hot it burned my mouth.  Shocked but it tasted so good. haha.

After dinner we drove to our next town and destination. Along the way on this road we have never seen so many deer in our live's. Seemed like every 500 yards their were 1-3 deer. It was crazy. We arrived at our lodge about midnite. We had a few beer that I had brought along. Cris tied A fly and called it quits. WE NEEDED SLEEP!! I was going on 36 hours being awake.  We only got 5 hours sleep. We had a Cliff Bar and coffee breakfast and headed out to the place I now call "heaven on earth." Upon arrival I was attacked by the flying blood sucker's.

Once I got on the water they went away. I walked down the trail a ways down till i found some water I thought was fishy. As I walked I was look at all the beautiful views this place had to offer. Once I got on the water I fished the first seam and hooked up with 15" rainbow. After a few minutes  I had another hook up in the same run but broke off behind a rock. This was the coolest place i have ever been. We did not have a lot of time to fish since it was our last day and had the long drive back home. We packed up headed for the 5. We stopped in Dunsmuir for some lunch. Saw the Upper Sac and Mt.Shasta before heading home. I slept most of the way back home. I was exhausted but I had a blast. I would do it again in a heart beat. I went with two of the coolest people ever. I want to thank you Naoki for picking me up and letting me ride along. Cris. This was EPIC. It was real cool to fish with ya finally. I cant wait till I can come to your home waters and see what it has to offer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvfNjsR28eQ&feature=youtube_gdata
