Help building fly rod
May 25th, 2010, 9:31pm

I'm thinking about building a new 10 weight saltwater rod.  I don't really want anything fancy...I really want it to look as close to a factory rod as possible.  I want to have the rod custom built so that I can use REC recoil guides.  I have no idea where to begin.  Who could I get to build a rod like this?  How much would it cost (in addition to the cost of the blank)?  How long will it take?

Thanks!

Need more inf0.

What kind of Rod are you looking for? Fast action?, Med Fast?, How long do you want the rod?
Do you have a blank in mind?
How much money did you want to spend for the build?

Just some of the things a builder will nee to know.

Most custom rod builders will build for the cost of components, shipping, & labor.

Components can run the gambit in cost, dending on what you want on the rod.

Some builders have a set cost for labor fees.  I've seen anywhere from $8 to $12 per guide, plus handle and seat installation.  I also seen a flat fee for labor covering the whole build.
