Here is a Dan Craft 8', 1 Wt., 5 Piece. Used single foot guides, forest green thread with no preserver, and silver trim wraps. Tried something new with the grip and really like it. The grip took loneger than the rest of the build.

I built a 6'1" 0 Wt last year from Dan Craft that I really like for brushy creeks and wanted to build on another one of his blanks. I did not see what I wanted on Dan's website so I called him and told him what I was after and he sent me what I needed. Dan is a big help and very nice guy. The paper work for the blank lists it as a Five River Sig. V.

The Sage 3100 reel works well with the rod.

Got to try it out this weekend. Awesome.

I saw this "grip finish" on an ultra light fly fishing forum. The credit goes to the guy who posted it over there. I asked for more details on how to do it but never got them so I just went for it.

Sand with 400 grit wet sand paper using Polyurethane as water. Sand until you get a slurry of the poly and sawdust. This will fill in pits. The color is Miniwax stain added to the Poly to your liking. Let dry and do over and over until you get the color you want. It will darken each time.

Once the color is right sand with 600 grit dry to get rid of any imperfections.

Next, wipe on Poly with your finger and let dry over night and reapply to your likings (alot).

Mine took a total of 7 nights to get it looking decent.

How much would it cost to do a rod like this but with a standard cork grip? [move]I have loved fishing light weight rods since I bought my first Orvis 1wt when they came out many years ago. But I always wanted a longer rod in these weights and they never seem to offer a nice long micro weight for us who want to extend our range for spooky fish.

Reply #5 - May 17^th, 2010, 8:37am nice rod !!!!! i wanna build a 1wt too but its been kinda hard finding a blank in my price range.... may i ask how much the dan craft 1wt 5 piece was? thanks. im in love witj smallll streams that hold (trophy) trout lol...i dont feel like putting in 180 bucks for the tfo finnesse.. especially for a 6"9 rod. thanks for tje post
