Fishing with Friends
Jan 12

I had the chance to introduce a favorite winter fishery to Jon Stanbery and his buddy Ray last Friday. They came over the hill and into the Central Valley for 3 days of fishing. I met up with them on Friday and showed them two spots I like to fish at this time of the year. I hooked up a nice one on a woolly bugger but lost it shortly into the fight when the hook came loose. Later in the day I hooked up another big one on a small (size 22) nymph and 6X tippet. This guy broke me off on the first mad dash across the river. One of these days I'll land the big one
Jon stayed true to his first love and threw streamers most, if not all, of the day. He was across the river from me when he first hooked up. If you look closely thru the overcast you can see a nice bend on his rod
His first fish of the day was a nice big strong tugging sucker.
A bit later, I saw him work some of his streamer magic. He had spotted a couple of big guys in shallow riffly water. The water was only about ankle deep and it's the kind of water I normally just walk on by, but he spotted fish and went about feeding them streamers. Here's a nice one he hooked up and landed
His friend Ray got to work some water also
Ray and Jon, it was nice fishing with you on Friday. I hope the rest of the weekend was fun. I would have joined you but I had a better offer from my daughter and son-in-law. They invited me over for two more days of fence building. Two days of hard labor and 76 fence posts later, I made it back home Sunday night just in time to fall into bed.
Take care my friends

Richard,
That's the only way to fish. Friends and bend in fly rod. Nice looking fish. Jon always manages a nice large specimen for a picture.

No I did not make it to the upper. At least we did not make it up to the dam.
Scott
It was great to meet you on the water on Saturday. You should see if you can make it at the end of the month to Bishop, you will have a blast.

I know this is going to sound bad, but Idid not even bring my camera on the water.
Thanks to Richard for the picture of my first(Trout) fish for 2010. The first fish was a 20 inch sucker.

I HATE the valley fog, but fishing in it seems like a nice way to enjoy it! Too bad the catching wasn't much better, but hey, new water takes time. Nice catch there Jon! Too bad I didn't know you were in the Fresno area, I could've given you an EARLY wake up Saturday morning.
Thanks for sharing the pics Richard.
