I'm no expert but isonychia is a fast swimmer and I thought they hatch later in summer.
They swim/crawl up to shore/reeds and hatch. And appear to be #12? Just from memory and 30 years ago on the lower Kern. Mr Peet, where are you?
XJ, that might be it. From memory, paraleps are small. 209
It was an easy size 12. Time to break out the hatch guide

Mr. Peet was the manager of the fly shop for Bass Pro in Branson and just took over the hunting dept. He lives in Kissy Mills about 13 miles SE of there. Matt gets off work at 9:30 at night and throws olive matukas 'til 2:30 in the morning for browns on the White River, sounds like a waste of his degree in biology.

Hey Swanee,
Good to hear from you. I guess by now Di is experiencing 15k again on the Mo. With big water the last three years those fish are big and fat!
Sure am pineing away for Craig nowadays but next year for sure. Let's fish one of these days.
I agree, what a waste. 209

I would agree. Looks like a newly emerged green drake.

Looks like and the time is right, a pmd. But a size 14? Then I've got 9 inches here!
Seriously, we need help! I've never seen a size 14 pmd unless and apparently it's something else. Mr Peet, where are you? I'm sure you know what a #14 fly looks like and I was making fun. Actually, I've never seen a pmd on the Kern, that's how much I fish it. Maybe you are right. Sorry. Flyguy, where are you? 209

Looks PMD-ish to me too. By looking at the picture, I'm going to guess your "About size 14" is being generous......or you have really big arm hair.
For comparison, I took a p[icture of a size 18....maybe 20, PMD fly.

Nice tie Brian, an extended body inermis. Last time I fished pmds was on the Missouri last year. The hatch is usually waining in mid July when I arrive. But fun none the less. 209

Oh no, no no. That's not my tie. I don't do well anymore, tying itty bitty flies. That's a store bought job.
Last time I fished PMDs was on the local tailwater. It isn't supposed to be a good match for the BWOs, but it works. Last time I fished a real PMD hatch was on another local freestoner. June or July, last year....or maybe the year before? The hatch goes into the night. Fun stuff.

Okay, I'm the new kid. I find this information useful; however, I'd really like a cheat sheet for consolidation of learning. Suggestions?
What I'm really looking for is hatch information specific to the Kern river that is portable. I found this link useful (thanks for the post)

Hi Crunch,
Run by the fly shop or just Google trout food.

If the wings are shiny and clear, it is a spinner coming back to lay eggs would be my guess.
