From the Associated Press May 30th........
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.(AP) State wildlife officials said Wednesday they want to know how the huge hog dubbed "Monster Pig" got into a fenced hunting preserve where it was chased down and shot to death by an 11-year-old boy.
The young hunter is not accused of doing anything illegal, but the head enforcement officer for Alabama's wildlife agency said agents are trying to determine if anyone broke a state law prohibiting the transportation and release of live feral swine.
"There are some questions about where the animal came from, how he got there, how long he'd been there," said Allan Andress, enforcement chief for the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division.
Andress said officials also will review whether the hunt complied with the state's "fair chase" law, which requires that prey at hunting plantations have a reasonable chance of escape.
Eddy Borden, the owner of the spread where the hunt occurred, declined comment on how the hog got into the 150-acre fenced-in area where it was killed last month by Jamison Stone of Pickensville.
Borden said he was getting tired of questions about the hog, which Jamison's father said weighed 1,051 pounds and measured 9 feet, 4 inches from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail. The kill drew international attention.
"I didn't ask for the publicity. I just want it to all go away," said Borden, whose Lost Creek Plantation is located in east Alabama.
Keith O'Neal, one of the guides who accompanied Jamison and father Mike Stone on the paid hunt, said he was unsure if the super swine was placed in the enclosure or grew up it.
Jamison was hunting with his father and the guides on May 3 when he killed the giant pig. He said he shot the huge animal eight times with a .50-caliber revolver and chased it for three hours through hilly woods before finishing it off with a point-blank shot.

OK, so the son shot a 50 cal handgun 11 times. That right there is B.S. If any of you have fired a 50cal revolver you know what I mean.

I agree. I also feel that anybody requiring that many shots to kill an animal shouldn't be hunting either.
Come on. That large of pig was hiding on 150 acres and they didn't know if it was born and grew up there or not? This story gets more hokey by the hour, not the least of which is the weight of over 1000 #s--it don't happen. Guess they must of been holding it at arm's length to make it "seem" larger.

That's Right!
Maybe the kid pulled the trigger 11 times, but I bet he needed help to get his shirt off that night.

He may have busted 11 rounds, but I wonder how many actually hit the Hogzilla?
Clint, Amen to shooting a .50, bet it blew the kid on his hineybo.
As for it being a "pig story"....it IS in Alabama!!! I have hunted many states in the SE and I can tell you personally, things grow big there, but I have a hunch that thing was fed well by the preserve owner. For those of you that have never lived anywhere but CA, it is a different world once you get out of here.

I wonder if the kid had to pay a higher hunt fee than other hunters shooting regular size hogs.

"The 1,051-pound hog, shot and killed by 11-year-old Jamison Stone and the subject of a world-wide Web firestorm over the photo's authenticity, really is...
Fred.
That's "Fred" the pig, and according to Rhonda and Phil Blissitt their humongous hog escaped on April 29, four days before it was killed, according to the Star newspaper."

The truth will set us free, well, not Fred. I guess they don't practice C&R when hunting wild "domesticated" pet pigs in Alabama.

Yepper, I'd sure be proud of my "boy" for killing a pet pig using 16 shots over a three hour period--NOT. I can see why the owner of the "game refuge hunting area" wants to forget about the whole thing. I'll bet his hate mail is overloading his mailbox.
Poor Fred

This thread has died, and come back to life!
In memory of Fred, I guess.
But in spite of all the consternation over his demise, I have no sympathy for Fred. He had a good life; his time had come. It was probably hard for him to carry all that weight around anyway. Hope Dad enjoys all those pork chops and sausage. Say now, I wonder if any part of Fred will wind up as BBQ?
