On the Dry

Found a whole shoal of fish "clopping" tonight. Spent 2 hours throwing dries at them. Finally got this little guy to take a size 18 Griffiths Gnat. Cool What a blast. Grin Grin

What a sweet fish on tiny dry flies. You've got to get a bigger net for your carpin'

WAY TO GO RANDY!!!   Cheesy   The #18 gnat is what I tied for the Rookie Swap.  I would have never thought a Carp would take it.  But, that's why we call you the Carpster.  Grin Grin

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either. Just leave me alone.

very nice.  i haven't seen clopping yet, but a big hatch did come off the creek late today.  i wish we were on your side of the lake to meet you.  i took patty's 3 wt Z-axis that we have been having such a problem casting and changed over to my sage 2wt 3100 reel... casts fine now, so i think there is something up with the line on her 3200.  i hooked a "little guy" like you have pic'd and fought him for 5 minutes before he broke off.

that's a wopper of a fish on that rod Smiley  patty and gen both hooked up and got to feel the subtle take tonight, but lost them in short order (just a taste to set the addiction!).

actually, i'm getting a little frustrated with losing them after about 4 or 5 minutes of fighting... i'm keeping the line tight, and the fly is still on the line, but they keep getting off (in fact, the fly nearly hits me in the head it leaves the fish with such force).  any advice?  we went in to get some tippet today and Todd nearly talked us into some heavier setups  Wink  they will have to be economy though (i'm fishing far above my means as a student right now Smiley )

funny side note:  i was wading in simple rubber boots, so intent on the carp that i didn't notice i was sinking in mud until the water was sloshing over the tops Smiley

Griffith's Gnats are a personally favorite for Cloppin' Carp... try tying it with various coloured dubbed bodies and different hackles besides the Standard Peacock & grizzly... it's a "Must have" for me when carpin'... Wink

Sweet Carp there Randy... Sweet... Smiley
