Hi Pete,

The custom Agate reminds me very much of the early Snake Brand stuff from Mike.  The last batch of agate guides I received for Struble was just OK, I even ordered the select type.  I found a winner.

Thanks,
Chiaki

Jeremy,

Very nice trip, enjoyed the ride. What Jeff did deserves to be acknowledged. meeting and making new friends on the water is what Fly Fishing is all about.

I wish I had gotten his email or something.  Was a really great guy, and hopefully I/we run into him on the water again some day.

That agate stripper looks awesome is it custom made?

twisted,
The Agate isn't custom, its an off the shelf item.  Joe just doesn't offer them in very many sizes.....yet.

Thanks guys.  It is sensitive enough to fish on a small stream, but I wouldn't be afraid to fish it anywhere on the Kern.
Pete

i have heard of other things needing love also but it sure makes you think doesn't it?

since you live in California, i guess it is ok to love pink rods that have strippers in this state. maybe that is just a bay area/ costal thing who knows but at least you can sport your pink rod loving in style.

Gary,

Just sharing that my son and I did that as one of our first backpacking trips.  The walking is not hard - you're mostly next to the river with some ups and downs, but it can be mighty hot.  It was 104 degrees when we did it one August.  You don't need to carry a ton of water, as you can filter more anytime.  Wet wading felt great too, so leave the waders in the trunk unless it's unusually cool.

In some areas, the banks are steep, but don't lose faith.  Every so often, you'll encounter another spot that makes a fine campsite.  And you can keep going as far back as your legs can carry you, and the temptation to fish doesn't overcome you.

Along about 10 AM, Pale Morning Duns caught fire.  Evenings we were caught in an upside down rain of bugs hatching off the river, listening to slurps and splashes all over the place.

About 8 AM, there's an alarm clock that will jump you out of your skin if you're lucky.  I won't spoil what I think is a cool surprise, just don't go and have a heart attack.

Apologies if you've dayhiked that stretch and know all of this.

DF
